He married (1) MATTIE JANE VOLENTINE February 16, 1908 in Franklin County, Arkansas, daughter of FRANCIS VOLENTINE and TALITHA HARRISON. She was born August 26, 1889 in Cecil, Franklin County, Arkansas, and died June 17, 1918 in Cecil, Franklin County, Arkansas. He married (2) ELLA ELVIRA VOLENTINE October 17, 1918 in Franklin County, Arkansas, daughter of FRANCIS VOLENTINE and TALITHA HARRISON. She was born November 21, 1894 in Cecil, Franklin County, Arkansas, and died December 31, 1954 in Elaine, Phillips County, Arkansas.

After 10 years of marriage to Alonzo Isaac Milam, when Mattie Volentine was sick and knew she was going to die, she made him promise to take care of her deaf, baby sister Ella Elvira Volentine. Four months after Mattie's death, he married Ella.

Notes for ELLA ELVIRA VOLENTINE:
Grandma Milam was almost totally deaf the whole time I knew her. She became deaf after a childhood illness at about age 8. She could usually understand everything that was going on around her and functioned very well in all her housewife and motherly duties. You could yell in her ear if she didn't understand what you were saying to her and she would hear it. She was a very gentle person and always treated me well, even when I was a brat. She was a great grandmother. She died when I was 11 years old.
