Notes for CARL EDWARDS MILAM, SR.:

Carl's daughter:
Carl Milam's father died of stomach cancer when Carl was 13 years old.  His mother left Fort Gibson and moved her family to Dallas where Carl worked to help support his family and graduated from Old Dallas High School.  He worked at the Ford Motor Plant during the Depression where he had to physically fight with other men standing outside the gate who didn’t have jobs before he could go to work.  Eventually, Carl put himself through night school and earned his CPA degree.  He married Hazel Meta Smith and they were married for 43 years.  After moving to Dallas, Carl stayed for the rest of his life. Carl and Hazel both died of cancer.  He told wonderful stories of life in Oklahoma.  He said his mother was a crack shot with a shotgun!  She would wash clothes outside of their cabin in a tub with a rub board, with the gun propped up against a tree to keep the Indians from kidnapping one of the kids.  It seems that she wasn’t shy about using "Old Betsy" either!  "Daddy was a wonderful man with a wicked sense of humor.  I used to tag around the yard after him like a puppy, and he taught me everything I know about gardening.  I also got a love of classical music and reading from him."
