JAMES MORROW5 MILAM, SR.
(COLEMAN4, THOMAS3, JOHN MILAM OF2 HALIFAX, VIRGINIA, UNK FATHER OF VIRGINIA1 MILAMS) was born June 24, 1821 in Alabama, and died 1901 in Searcy County; or Atkins, Pope Co., Arkansas.
He married (1) DORCAS REBECCA HARRIS May 15, 1840 in Coffee County, Tennessee. She was born March 17, 1825 in Tennessee (poss Franklin County), and died Bet. 1864 - 1869 in prob Hardin County, Tennessee.
He married (2) JULIA ANN WHITE July 1869 in prob Hardin County, Tennessee. She was born April 30, 1840 in Alabama.
Notes for JAMES MORROW MILAM, SR.:
Dorcas and James owned their farm on the east side of the Tennessee River in Horse Creek
township, about 10 miles south of Savannah, Tennessee....where the Pickwick Dam and
Recreation Area is today.
They lived only about 4-5 miles west of Shiloh when the great Civil War battle occurred. Also, Passo Milam: "James M. Milam was almost certainly in the Civil War."
Notes for DORCAS REBECCA HARRIS:
She is reported to be full Cherokee, with indian name, "Dark Eyes."
Reported to have been told by Passo Milam, son of David Ferrill Milam: "Sometime
after Franklin was born in 1864, and before James M. Milam, Sr. remarried in 1869, Dorcas
died from smoke inhalation while helping to fight a timber fire in Hardin County,
Tennessee. She may be buried in the Nixon Cemetery."
