JEFFERSON5 MILAM

(JOHN4, THOMAS3, JOHN MILAM OF2 HALIFAX, VIRGINIA, UNK FATHER OF VIRGINIA1 MILAMS) was born abt. 1820 in Franklin County, Tennessee, and died June 25, 1862 in Tupelo, Lee County, Mississippi.

He married (1) UNK abt. June 1843 in Franklin County, Tennessee. She was born Abt. 1824, and died Abt. 1852 in Franklin County, Tennessee.

He married (2) MARY ARMSTRONG January 14, 1854 in Winchester, Franklin County, Tennessee. She was born abt. 1820 in Tennessee, and died in Mississippi.

Jefferson Milam
(1820-1862)

Jefferson Milam and his 2nd wife, Mary Armstrong, who according to Winchester, Franklin Co., TN, County Court Clerks' Office of Marriage Records, Jan 1838-Jan 1875, were married on 14 Jan 1854.

Jefferson, according to his Civil War Record with Co. C, 32nd Mississippi Infantry (Confederate), as written on 12 Jan 1863, by Capt. J. W. Swinney, Company Commander, was born in Franklin Co., TN, was 42 years old on enlistment on 8 Mar 1862, in Booneville, MS, was 5' 7" high, dark complexioned with black eyes, and was by profession a farmer. Capt. Swinney further stated that Jefferson died at Tupelo, MS, of disease on 5 Jun 1862. Jefferson's oldest son William, also a member of Co. C, became sick about the same time that Jefferson fell ill near Corinth, MS. The boy was returned home to regain his health and returned to the unit to be killed on 19 Sep 1863, on the first day of battle at Chicamauga, GA.

Jefferson fathered six children by his first wife (name unknown) , two boys in AL, two sets of twins in Franklin Co., TN, 1st a boy & girl, then two boys. He fathered three children by Mary Armstong, two in TN, and the last in MS, shortly after the family's arrival there. One of the boys, of the 2nd set of twins, was Daniel Theophilus (Tobe) Milam, who brought his family from Charleston, MS to Neveda Co., AR in 1880.
