Descendants of Lucas Coleman Milam

1. LUCAS COLEMAN MILAM (THOMAS FERRILL5, COLEMAN4, THOMAS3, JOHN2, UNKNOWN FATHER OF THE VIRGINIA1 MILAMS) was born March 03, 1836 in Franklin County, Tennessee, and died April 26, 1908 in Lowes Creek, Franklin County, Arkansas. He married SUSAN EMALINE HOYLE March 14, 1871 in Franklin County, Arkansas, daughter of JAMES HOYLE and JANE PENDERGRASS. She was born June 25, 1851 in Ozark, Franklin County, Arkansas, and died May 04, 1891 in Lowes Creek, Franklin County, Arkansas.

Notes for Lucas Coleman Milam:
In November 1861, he, his father, and his brother, Thomas F. Milam, Jr., age 17, enlisted in the Confederate States Army at Fort Smith, Arkansas. All three served in the 17th Arkansas Infantry Regiment, CSA.  Following the Battle of Pea Ridge/Elkhorn Tavern in March 1862, his father died in the Confederate Hospital near Van Buren, Arkansas.  Lucas was captured at Battle of Corinth, Mississippi, paroled, and sent home in September 1862.  Under the conditions of his parole, Lucas swore to become a non-belligerent. Apparently, this is just what he did, until 1864, when he was forced into the Union Army.

In January 1864, the Union Army overran and occupied northern Arkansas.  Lucas, his brother Calaway Jackson Milam, and every able bodied man in Franklin County, Arkansas, were conscripted into the 18th Iowa Infantry Regiment.
Following the war, he returned to farming and from time to time, he and his brother Calaway owned and operated gins in Franklin County.
