Notes for REBECCA MILUM:
Gideon Milum, Rebecca's brother, is said to have been waylaid and shot dead by
bushwhackers on a hill above Watkin's Ford. His mother died the next day.
According to Mary Mae Twitty, his descendant, Gideon, knowing his wife Nancy would give
away her last dime, gave his sister Rebecca (Becky) Milum money for his children's
educations.
Family tradition has it that Bushwhackers heard of Becky holding money for Gideon's children. They burned her hands at the coals in her own fireplace until she gave them the money.
Notes for GEORGE W. SUTTON:
Died in Civil War.
