TOM⁸ MILAM (FRANCIS MARION⁷, WILKERSON⁶, ROBERT⁵, WILLIAM ALLEN⁴, BARTLETT FERRILL³, JOHN², UNKNOWN FATHER OF THE VIRGINIA¹ MILAMS) was born January 16, 1893 in Morgan County, Alabama and died October 28, 1913 in West Austinville, Morgan County, Alabama. He married NORA CHAMBLESS daughter of PINK CHAMBLESS.

Drinks Poison, Falls Dying In Wife's Arms
Terrible Tragedy Shocked Austinville At An Early Hour Last Night; Tom Milam Dead

Tom Milam, of West Austinville, last night about 7 o'clock drank two ounces of carbolic acid, expiring in a few minutes in the arms of his wife, from whom he had been separated about four months. According to the statement of Mrs. Tom Milam, he came to the home of her father, Pink Chambless, where she was staying,and talked with her about an hour, giving no evidence of despondency. The young wife discovered a bottle in his pocket and inquired of Milam what it contained and received a meaningless answer. It was with the contents of the drought that ended his earthly career.

Last night ten feet away from her, with a fence between them, he swallowed two ounces of the fiery liquid, fell into the arms of his wife, exclaiming in his last dying gasps: "Hell is my doom, but I love you until the last." Immediately following the death, which was only a matter of a few minutes after the poison was taken, tender hands lifted the remains and carried them to the his former home only a short distance from the scene of the tragedy.

Deceased was about 22 years of age, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Milam. Besides his wife there are two little children to mourn the taking away of their natural protector. Austinville neighbors and friends were stunned by the suddenness of the terrible tragedy and nothing but sympathetic expressions are to be heard for those immediately effected by the untimely ending of so young a life.
