MILAM Campground Cemetery

The sad state of this cemetery drives home once again the importance
of preserving old cemeteries. They are vital links to our past.
This particular cemetery has several early Milam ancestors. Many of
today's Milams are close descendants of those buried there. A small
number of volunteers are doing what they can to maintain and preserve it,
but there is much work to do and they need help. Consider doing
something to help them preserve our heritage. If you can contribute money or labor to this effort, please
do.
In addition, its broken and missing headstones and the encroachment of
land development upon this cemetery should remind us all of the need to
photograph every Milam descendant's headstone in every cemetery possible. Such
photographs may be the only visible records future generations will have of
their ancestors' burial sites. Think about the huge numbers of Milam
burial sites which are lost already. Take the time to photgraph, not
only your Milam ancestors' burial sites, but also others too. Send any
photos to me and I will find space for them on the website. You may
be doing posterity a great service. Also, it would be great if we
could catalogue GPS (ground positioning satelite) locationing coordinates for
each one too. Future generations would always know where the old rural
family cemeteries are located.
